I am a visual and verbal instigator, finding platforms for pressing and compelling subjects to be broached from various angles. I exhibit that work in contexts that chosen audiences, often unaware of contemporary art, can feel the query and comprehend without the work losing its integrity. In my art, like in my career, I contrast different points of view side by side.  Questions are often the format.  The formats depend on the audience I am aiming for and the content is developed in collaboration about topics normally discussed in private. Occasionally I get create feminist images and dialogues with Molly Cleator in public.

I place intimate images into public arenas, for example: on a billboard, street banner, an outdoor audio installation, a video installation in a restaurant, or animation on an electronic sign. Conversely, I also “whited out” (erased) every commercial sign on six adjacent blocks. Authentic communication is my goal despite the anticipated commercial messages.

Word play with or without an image is my primary proposal here. My work samples show both stills and brief video animations, usually selected to fulfill a technical requirement. Questions and the slippery slide between one word and another pass through a viewer’s mental meaning department where poetry comes from. Activating new public interpretations is my favorite joy in life.

My work highlights still unresolved conflicts about the vulnerable through images and texts, written or audible. The sites are chosen to frame the issue for the selected audiences: power at city hall, gender in the bathroom, media beside the movie theater, etc.  I funnel complex content through the site into personal encounters.

Twice in front of Pasadena City Hall, in Take Over, Take Cover and Pares, Pairs  I micro-projected 2-word choices on audience members to challenge how people perceived words, stigmas, and their personal space.
